Online & Telephone Counselling (UK)

Online counselling therapy is a way for you to engage in counselling using internet technology. I offer counselling sessions via telephone or online via webcam video to clients based all over the UK.

You direct your counselling by selecting the method of communication you feel most comfortable with. You choose the time, the place and the pace of your counselling to suit your needs. Every effort is made to provide a safe and secure environment for your online therapy to protect your confidentiality and security.

How Online & Telephone Counselling Work

Online

Webcam video counselling is a way for you to see your counsellor face-to-face from your computer whilst engaging in therapy. You will be provided with information on how to meet for sessions via online platforms and you will meet virtually with your counsellor at a time that you have previously arranged. Being able to see your counsellor gives you more of the benefits you get from face-to-face counselling but with the convenience of online therapy. By talking you hear tone of voice which is a way to convey empathy and with video you see nonverbal communications such as facial expressions.

Telephone

You provide your counsellor with your preferred telephone number to be contacted on and your counsellor will call you at a time you have previously arranged. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.

An advantage of telephone counselling is that non-verbal communication can be carried in you tone of voice or the pace of speech which can be picked up by your counsellor.

Is Online or Telephone Therapy Right for You?

Online and telephone counselling offers certain benefits but there are also limitations that are worth bearing in mind when deciding which type of therapy (face to face, online via webcam video or telephone) will best suit your needs.

BENEFITS

  • Counselling therapy from your own home at a time that suits you
  • No travel to and from a practice room
  • Access to counselling may be more immediate
  • Flexibility to chose the technology you feel is best for you: telephone or webcam

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Are you comfortable using internet technology?
  • Would you prefer to see your counsellor face-to-face?
  • Do you feel your situation is too complex to discuss via the internet or via the telephone?
  • Is there a device (Smartphone, laptop, computer) that you can use privately without interruption?

Confidentiality

Online webcam video counselling therapy takes place within a secure environment to protect your confidentiality and safety. It is important to understand that no one online digital platform can guarantee 100% security from potential digital threats. It is recommended to ensure that the device you choose to use for online webcam video counselling has an up to date antivirus and security programme installed.

Telephone counselling is conducted by the counsellor from a landline to ensure reliability of the line. Mobile phones can be used by clients for counselling sessions as many mobile services offer a good enough quality of reception to do so. It is important to be aware that as mobile services are now digital this reduces the risk of calls being intercepted, however this is not impossible. Mobile phone services now being digital improves security but hackers with sophisticated equipment could still intercept and decode a call.
